Hydro Designs provides design, advice, and direction to its clients by combining technical expertise, experience, and values of environmental conservation. Clear and accurate communication is key to our work: we strive to understand what a client wants to achieve; we interpret and elaborate upon this goal using our technical expertise, experience, and environmental values; and we translate this goal into drawings, narratives, and specifications from which the client’s goal may be achieved.
Hydro Designs has been providing irrigation consulting and design services for large and small landscapes (estates, streetscapes, cemeteries, parks, campuses), athletic fields, golf courses, and for wastewater disposal since 1989. Both of the two principal designers have advanced university degrees in agricultural engineering, which result in a well-developed understanding of the interaction of the soil-water-plant environment and the engineering concepts of irrigation systems, water pumping, and automatic controls.
We translate the clients’ desires and needs into an irrigation system that is durable, efficient in use of water and energy, environmentally responsible, and manageable. We help the client understand the balance among capital investment, operational expense, system longevity, and usefulness.
Hydro Designs is a consulting firm, not simply an irrigation design firm. We make sure that the client understands the concepts behind the design so that informed choices may be made with respect to budget, construction, and operations
Our Team
Michael has been providing design and consulting services in the landscape irrigation industry since 1989. The scope of his clients’ needs is broad and includes wastewater effluent on- and sub-surface application, municipal parks, athletic fields, corporate and commercial campuses, golf courses, cemeteries, non-potable water pumping systems, and integrated automatic controls of complex systems.
Michael earned a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Maryland and is a Professional Member and past-president of the American Society of Irrigation Consultants (asic.org). He holds Golf and Commercial Designer Certification and Landscape Irrigation Auditor Certification from the Irrigation Association (irrigation.org).
Paul has been providing design and consulting services in the golf and landscape irrigation industry since 1996. His primary focus is on golf course irrigation consulting, providing irrigation design and specifications, pump station design, construction support, GPS mapping, control system programming, and irrigation system assessments.
Prior to his work as a consultant, Paul worked as an irrigation engineer and irrigation division manager for a leading distributor of landscape and irrigation equipment in the Mid Atlantic region.
Paul earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering from Virginia Tech University. He is a member of the American Society of Irrigation Consultants, Golf Course Builders Association of America, and several local golf course superintendents organizations. He also holds Golf Course Designer Certification and Golf Course Irrigation Auditor Certification from the Irrigation Association, and is a US EPA WaterSense Partner.
Tim is a former golf course superintendent and a veteran of the commercial landscape industry who joined the team in 2021.
His focus is design and construction support, GPS mapping and customer service.
Tim most recently held a position as Director of Turf and Ornamental Health for Sposato Landscape in Milton, Delaware, serving the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Delaware. Previously he was golf course superintendent for The Carl M. Freeman Company golf courses in the Ocean City, Maryland area, overseeing Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club, The Bay Club and Bayside Resort Golf Club. Originally from the DC area, Tim was a long-time Assistant Superintendent at Burning Tree Club.
Tim is a graduate of the University of Maryland IAA with a degree in Golf Course Management.
